Keep you and the IU community healthy

Before you can register for classes at IU Bloomington, you must submit proof of required immunizations. These records help keep the campus community healthy and ensure you’re ready for your first semester.

The Student Health Center portal is where you can upload your vaccination documentation.

Required immunizations for all Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs

IU requires all Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs to provide documentation for the following vaccines:

  • Measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR): Two doses given after your first birthday and at least 28 days apart, or a blood test showing immunity.
  • Tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (Tdap): One dose within the last 10 years.
  • Meningococcal ACWY (MCV4): Required for Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs under age 22. The dose must have been received on or after your 16th birthday.
  • Varicella (chickenpox): Two doses of the varicella vaccine, a blood test showing immunity, or verified documentation of having had the disease.

Tuberculosis (TB) screening required for international Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs

As part of the arrival process, all international undergraduate and graduate Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs are required by Indiana law to take a TB test with the Student Health Center. IU does not accept TB documentation from outside the United States.

The process

All international Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs will receive a pre-arrival email from the Office of International Services (OIS) with specific instructions as part of your orientation process. These emails will guide you through your immunization requirements, including the mandatory TB blood test.

The appointment

You must schedule your TB blood test through the Student Health Center as soon as possible after you arrive in Bloomington. Follow these steps:

Additional information

  • IU International Insurance card: You will need your insurance card to make an appointment. If you are already enrolled in classes, you can access your card through the starting August 1. Create an Anthem account to look up your ID card. Enter your name and date of birth exactly as they appear on your passport.
  • Already tested in the U.S.? If you have had a TB test done elsewhere in the United States, submit the information in the in One.IU.
  • Students under 18: If you will be under 18 upon arrival, a parent or guardian must sign the before your blood test can be administered.

  • Translation requirements: If your immunization records are not in English, you must provide a certified English translation along with the original documents.

How to submit your immunization records

Upload your documentation to the . Your records must clearly show your full name, date of birth, vaccine names, and the date of each dose. Each document must be signed by a healthcare provider or be part of an official medical record.

What happens if your records are incomplete?

To avoid delays, submit your records as soon as possible. Failure to meet these requirements will result in a registration hold on your Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµ account, and you will not be able to register for your second semester classes. International Ïã½¶ÊÓÆµs may also experience delays in completing OIS check‑in.

Receiving vaccinations on campus

If you are missing required records or vaccines, you can receive them at the Student Health Center after you arrive in Bloomington.

If you receive any vaccinations at IU while on the , the cost will be fully covered.
