Your first step: Respond to your waitlist offer

To be considered for admission if a space becomes available, eligible Ï㽶ÊÓƵs must officially accept their place on the waitlist.

• How to accept: Eligible Ï㽶ÊÓƵs will receive an offer to join the waitlist via email. You have two weeks from the receipt of that email to accept the offer through your IU Portal. All Ï㽶ÊÓƵs who accept their spot will receive a final decision no later than June 15, 2026.

• Update your information: While not required, eligible Ï㽶ÊÓƵs may submit an additional brief statement through the checklist item in their IU Portal if they wish to provide updates since their initial application.

• Canceling your application: If you decide you are no longer interested in attending IU, you can officially cancel your application at any time through your IU Portal.

How the waitlist works

We understand that waitlist processes vary by institution. At IU Bloomington, Ï㽶ÊÓƵs are not assigned a numeric rank or a specific place on the list.

• Decision factors: Just as with our initial review, we consider multiple factors within your application. Because available spaces vary by program, we look for the best fit (major, location, academic profile, etc.) for each opening.
  
  
• Limited-capacity programs: If your first choice was a limited-capacity program (such as Business, Nursing, Music, Musical Theatre B.F.A., or Contemporary Dance B.F.A.), any consideration for admission from the waitlist will most likely be for your second-choice major.

Exploring other options for entering IU

We want you to earn your degree from IU and are ready to help you stay on your path, whether that means starting in a future term or transferring from another institution.

• Exploring spring 2027 entry: If you would like to explore entry for the spring 2027 semester, you must accept your spot on the fall 2026 waitlist first, and then email admswait@iu.edu to learn about your next steps.

  • Please note: Spring entry is not available for limited-capacity programs (Business, Nursing, Music, Musical Theatre B.F.A., and Contemporary Dance B.F.A.). Review the Admission Paths page to learn about entering these specific schools.

• Transferring in the future: If you are interested in attending another university for the entire 2026–2027 academic year and transferring to Bloomington in fall 2027, explore our Transfer Applicants page.

• Alternative starting conversations: If you choose not to join the waitlist at all but still want to discuss future enrollment or spring terms, contact us directly at admswait@iu.edu to begin those conversations.

What happens if you are admitted?

If you receive an offer of admission from the waitlist, you will have ample time to review your options, finalize your details, and take your next steps toward becoming a Hoosier. Here is how we support you through that transition:

Financial aid and scholarships

If you submitted your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by our April 15 priority deadline, you will be given full consideration for financial aid. Information regarding your financial aid award will be made available before you have to confirm your attendance to IU. Once you are admitted you will be able to access your financial aid summary at .

To ensure that Indiana University receives your information, list our federal school code on your FAFSA: 001809.

Housing availability

You can as soon as you are admitted. Information regarding the general availability of housing (not necessarily a specific room assignment) will be provided before your enrollment confirmation deadline. Learn more on the .

Orientation and class registration

Once you declare your and submit your deposit, you will receive an invitation to reserve your New Student Orientation date. You will work directly with an academic advisor to register for your classes during your orientation session.
