Description of the video:

00:00:02:20 - 00:00:04:11
All right, let's go.

00:00:04:11 - 00:00:07:21
Well, my name is David Reingold,
and I'm the chancellor of Indiana

00:00:07:21 - 00:00:09:04
University Bloomington.

00:00:09:04 - 00:00:12:07
I first came to the university in 1996,

00:00:12:16 - 00:00:16:12
straight out of graduate school
and, spent 18 years here,

00:00:16:13 - 00:00:20:15
as a faculty member in the O'Neill School
of Public Environmental Affairs.

00:00:20:16 - 00:00:21:20
This is home to me.

00:00:21:20 - 00:00:24:17
It's where I met my wife. It's
where my kids were born.

00:00:24:17 - 00:00:27:01
The role that IU Bloomington chancellor

00:00:27:01 - 00:00:30:09
is to be the CEO of this campus.

00:00:30:17 - 00:00:36:00
I'm going to spend much of my time
during these first several months

00:00:36:00 - 00:00:38:12
taking on this job,
listening and learning.

00:00:38:12 - 00:00:41:00
A decade has passed since I've been here,
and a lot has changed.

00:00:41:00 - 00:00:43:21
I certainly hope people will come up
and introduce themselves

00:00:43:21 - 00:00:45:20
and tell me a little bit
about who they are

00:00:45:20 - 00:00:49:14
and what they're interested
in, and how we can make the place better.

00:00:49:14 - 00:00:53:13
And the only way that we get better
is if we know where we need to improve.

00:00:53:13 - 00:00:56:05
And,
and that mostly comes from people sharing.

Dr. David A. Reingold leads IU Bloomington with a commitment to academic excellence, research innovation, and civic engagement. A seasoned academic leader and sociologist, he brings decades of experience in higher education administration, public policy, and faculty development.

A legacy of innovation

Before returning to Indiana University, Chancellor Reingold served as the Dean of Liberal Arts at Purdue University for a decade. During his tenure, he was the longest-serving liberal arts and sciences dean in the Big Ten. Chancellor Reingold pioneered a widely recognized general education program, Cornerstone, which has since been replicated by over 60 institutions. He also led campus efforts around civics literacy, freedom of inquiry and expression, and initiatives in Washington, DC, in his role as senior vice president.

Deep roots at IU

Chancellor Reingold’s connection to Indiana University runs deep. He previously held senior leadership roles as executive associate dean and professor at the O’Neill School, where he played a key role in advancing the school to top national rankings. His work focused on elevating faculty research, strengthening graduate education, and launching nationally recognized initiatives to enhance undergraduate learning.

Expertise and public service

An expert in urban poverty, economic development, social welfare policy, low-income housing policy, civil society, and government performance, Chancellor Reingold’s research has been published in a number of leading journals. He has served on editorial boards and advisory panels for national organizations and federal agencies, and his public service includes work with the U.S. Corporation for National and Community Service and the White House Task Force for Disadvantaged Youth. He is also a founding director of the Community Investment Fund of Indiana, a statewide community development financial institution.

At home in Bloomington

A Chicago native and a resident of Indiana for nearly 30 years, Chancellor Reingold holds a bachelor's in sociology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master’s and Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago. He and his wife, Dr. Lynn Hooker, associate professor of music, are proud to call Bloomington home along with their two children.
